Spring has sprung here in Mount Pleasant and Charleston. And as we’ve mentioned in previous posts, it’s BEACH SEASON! Knowing that many of our fitness DUFFNATICS take their active lifestyles outside the gym, we thought we would present some of our favorite active swimwear of the spring and summer (with links on where to find them!!!).
While this week we have focused on WOMEN, next week we will feature the best swimwear for MEN so that all you workout warriors can get your sweat-on while taking in some rays.
FOR THE LADIES:
We know the trend is to have those “barely-there” bottoms and tiny tops, which can be great if you’re lounging in the sun—but nobody wants a wedgie when their paddling through surf or taking a quick jog on the sand.
Best Swimwear for Running:
Zimbabwe High Neck Bikini ($64.00) by Athleta: More like a sports bra than a bikini top, this piece can easily transition from a beach-time jog into a quick cool-off dip in the water.
Zimbabwe Kata Short ($54.00) by Athleta: Great for both sand and surf, these shorts has built-in undies and will work as well at the gym as in the water.
Best Swimwear for Paddling/Surfing:
The surf-experts at Bodhhi Surf School in Costa Rica warn Wahines to avoid strapless tops, underwire and anything with mesh (all for totally self-explanatory reasons!). With that in mind, we recommend Holly One Piece in Wonderland ($107.00) by Body Glove. Rocking a one-piece can serve many functions, not least of which is that full-coverage insures that you keep everything under-wraps no matter how rough the surf can get out there.
Best Swimwear for Working Out on the Beach:
In the spirit of Lululemon’s No Limits tank (a classic we HOPE to one day make a resurgence!), we love TYR Sport’s Shea 2-in-1 Tank ($44.99). Made with SPF 50 fabric, it’s perfect for the sun while the loose sides give you some exposure to the rays AND some modesty for crunches, and core-work.
TYR Sport’s Zola Hipkini ($29.99). Also SPF 50, these bottoms are double-lined and offer extra hip-coverage, perfect for lunges, swimming laps and unrestricted movement.
